I watched A Very British Gangster on the plane ride to LA last week, and it was pretty damn good. The documentary is about Dominick Noonan, an openly gay mobster from Manchester who answers just about every question the director throws at him. A Very British Gangster has everything you’d want from a British documentary: kids smoking, chavs, full English Breakfasts, and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Mega Snake

I bought this bootleg DVD of Mega Snake when I was in Hanoi a few weeks ago. My purchase was based on two things:

1. The cover

2. The price ($1.00)

They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover…well, the same rule should apply to DVDs. The Mega Snake cover led me to believe that this movie was filled with cool stuff like B52 bombers, chicks in animal skin bikinis, and a dude dressed up as a super-hero from the future. Check out the back of the DVD sleeve:

Mega Snake had no explosions with guys jumping out of the fire, no Asian guys with rifles, not even a single machete.

Truth be told, Mega Snake was basically a combination of Gremlins and Anaconda, except not as cool.

Here’s the description from the back of the DVD sleeve (typos and all):
